standard-title Diving & Fishing

Diving & Fishing

Thanks to the mix of the cold Humboldt Current and the warm El Niño (or Ecuadorian) Current, here at the coast of Piura and Tumbes we can find many different marine species. Plus there is a place call “Banco de Mancora”, which it lodges an important amount of marine flora and fauna.

In the coastal area of Piura and Tumbes most divers go in search of grouper or Fortuno, fine large fish that usually roam the coast of Mancora, not many yards from the shore and in some bajos known only by local divers.
Although visibility is not comparable to the Caribbean Sea for example, is sufficient to spot different types of fish listed above. A good day visibility can reach up to approximately 7 meters and an average day reaches 4 m approx.
The preferred divers sectors are at Pocitas, also in the area known as Bajerio Peña Mala at Vichayito beach, and south Cabo Blanco. Towards Tumbes, Punta Sal is recognized as a good spot of diving and fishing, as well as some bajos off the beach known as Peña Redonda. We recommend you go with a guide or local diver for a better location.

Fishing, trolling and High Sea Fishing

This piece of coast is internationally recognized for the abundance and
variety of marine species and for the (still standing) world fishing records
for black marlin (men’s record: 1560 lbs. in 1953 and women’s record: 1525
lbs in 1954) and bigeye tuna (435 lbs in 1957), as well as other important
world records like the roosterfish record for 50 lb. and 130 lb. test lines
in 1954, and the women’s bigeye tuna record for 80 lb. and 130 lb. test
lines in 1953 and 1957.

Here we name the favorites fishes for fishermen and divers:
